Low Tox Living: Simple Swaps That Actually Stick
14 May 2026 · 4 min read
When people hear low tox, they often picture an expensive overhaul and a pantry stripped bare. That version is overwhelming, and it rarely lasts. The kind that lasts is quieter. It happens one swap at a time, as things run out, without guilt or perfectionism.
I did not change my home overnight. I changed it gradually, paying attention to the products I used most and the ones that touched my body and my family most often. Here is where I would begin.
Start with what you touch most
The first things I swapped were the products I used every day. The hand soap by the sink, the cleaner I sprayed across the kitchen, the moisturiser on my skin. These are the items with the most contact, so they give you the most benefit for the least effort.
Read fewer ingredients, not more labels
You do not need a chemistry degree. A simple rule helps. The shorter the ingredient list, and the more of it you recognise, the better. If a product hides its scent behind the word parfum, that is worth a second look.
One room at a time
Pick a single space, the bathroom or the kitchen, and only replace things as they finish. This keeps the cost manageable and stops the whole thing feeling like a project. By the time you have worked through one room, the habit has formed.
My most used swaps
These are the changes that genuinely stuck for me.
- A concentrated all purpose cleaner that replaced a cupboard full of sprays
- Tallow based skincare that my skin actually drinks in
- A natural deodorant that holds up through a full day of teaching
- Ceremonial cacao in place of my second coffee
Progress over perfection. A home that is a little cleaner today is worth more than a perfect plan you never start.
Low tox living is not a destination you arrive at. It is a direction you keep choosing, gently, as you learn. Be kind to yourself in the process.
If you would like to see the specific products I use and trust, I keep an honest, regularly updated edit on my shop page. Nothing is there because of a sponsorship. Every item has earned its place in my home.
